Three children usually means a box. Large two-wheeled front loaders offer two benches and three or four belts; trikes have the widest boxes and often seat four. A few long longtails are approved for three smaller children on the rear rack. What counts is the number of approved seats and belts, not the size of the box alone.
Three children weigh 60 to 75 kg, the bike another 50 to 60 kg, and then there is the rider: the whole system quickly passes 200 kg. Check the permitted total weight first. A mid-drive motor with around 85 Nm, strong hydraulic disc brakes and a battery of 500 Wh or more are sensible at this load, and the range drops noticeably when the box is full.
These bikes are 2.3 to 2.7 m long, and trikes are up to 90 cm wide: measure the door, the gate and the parking space. A trike steers differently from a bicycle and leans the wrong way in corners unless it tilts, so take a test ride with the children. Plan for growth too: box space is used up by shoulders long before the weight limit is reached.
Some trikes and large front loaders have four seats with belts. Whether four fit in practice depends on their ages and on the load rating of the box.
A two-wheeler is faster and rides better over distance. A trike is easier at standstill and when loading, which helps with very young children.
Usually until the oldest is around eight or nine. After that the oldest often rides alone and the box is used for the younger ones.
