Commercial use means heavy loads, many stops and daily mileage. The numbers that matter are payload, permitted total weight and the size of the loading area. Front loaders with a flat platform or a lockable box carry the most; heavy-duty longtails are faster in dense traffic.
A cargo bike that works every day needs robust parts: four-piston brakes, a strong mid-motor and, ideally, a belt drive or hub gear that survives stop-and-go riding. Range decides how many rounds fit into a day, so a large battery or a second battery pays off quickly. Check whether the maker offers business service and spare parts.
Compare the payload with what you really carry, including boxes and racks. Make sure the total weight rating covers rider, load and bike. A sturdy two-leg stand and a parking brake save time at every stop.
It varies widely: from about 80 kg on the loading area of a longtail to well over 100 kg on a heavy front loader. Always check the permitted total weight, which includes the rider and the bike.
A front loader takes bulky boxes and keeps them in view. A longtail is narrower and quicker in traffic, and better for bags and smaller parcels.
Add up your daily rounds and plan for about half the manufacturer's figure with a full load, or choose a dual-battery model.
